History of A & S Gifts
Anetta and Scott Rowe own and operate A & S Gifts, a family gemstone, jewelry design and manufacturing company with a complete gemological laboratory serving the public and the area’s local jewelers. Anetta and Scott both come from gemstone and fine jewelry families.
Anetta’s father was born in Antwerp, Belgium into a family diamond business and Anetta worked at the Diamond Grading Laboratory, Ltd., located in Sydney Australia. After she earned her Diploma in Gemmology from the Gemmological Association of Australia in 1981, she traveled to Santa Monica, California to earn her Graduate Gemologist Diploma in Residence. (Gemology is spelled with 2 m’s in Australia.)
Scott’s father owned the House of Onyx, one of the largest wholesale gemstone companies in the United States. Scott grew up using microscopes and gemological laboratory equipment from an early age. At the earliest possibility, Scott traveled to the Gemological Institute of America, (G.I.A.), to earn his Graduate Gemologist Diploma. Anetta completed the Jewelry Design course in residence at the G.I.A. in 1983 and also earned her G.I.A. Diploma in Jewelry Retailing. She was in the same class with Scott and they were married in 1983 and started A & S Gifts in 1985.
A & S Gifts served retail jewelers and supplied exotic gems and minerals to museums and supplied crystals, minerals, dinosaur fossils and meteorites for museum gift shops. Anetta also offered a pearl and bead stringing service for retail jewelers. Over the years, the focus of A & S Gifts shifted from wholesale trade work for retail jewelers toward the custom designed and manufactured jewelry for their retail clientele.
Appraisals are performed in a state-of-the-art gem lab with a video microscope and digital diamond colorimeter, (color grader). A & S Gifts also provides a gemstone cutting service featuring a rare Optical Magnifying Faceter which cuts concave surfaces into any gemstone except diamond. When Scott is not appraising jewelry for his clients, he spends most of his time designing and on the jeweler’s bench manufacturing fine custom jewelry. They blend their knowledge of precious metals, designs, fine colored gemstones and diamonds with expert methods of construction, stone setting and engraving which is lacking in mass produced jewelry.
Scott also writes many informative articles regarding colored gems, diamonds, market conditions, sophisticated synthetics and treatments, and scams. He offers these for free to anyone because he believes a more educated consumer will purchase fine, high quality colored stone and diamond jewelry.
When looking for a “Mom & Pop” jeweler, you found the true

work on watches and cut diamonds.
